Atkinson joined the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks ahead of the 2023 season, securing an extended contract until 2025. His debut as Shark #557 included a notable cameo against his former team, Melbourne. 

Before joining the Sharks, he played for the Melbourne Storm in the NRL. Atkinson showcased his international prowess by making his debut for Italy at the 2021 Rugby League World Cup on October 16, 2022, contributing to Italy’s impressive 28–4 victory over Scotland.
