Chantay Kiria-Ratu is a rising star in women’s rugby league, known for her sharp playmaking and strong kicking game. After making her mark with the Gold Coast Titans in 2023, she joined the Cronulla Sharks on a three-year deal ahead of the 2025 NRLW season. Kiria-Ratu made an immediate impact in her Sharks debut, impressing with her game management and kicking skills in the season opener against the Parramatta Eels.
Her journey began at Keebra Park State High School, where she quickly stood out for her exceptional skills. She joined the Titans’ NRLW development program in 2022 and made her NRLW debut in 2023, playing all 11 games and helping the team reach their first-ever grand final. Her outstanding performance earned her the Titans’ Rookie of the Year award.
Internationally, Kiria-Ratu has represented the Cook Islands with distinction. She debuted in the 2022 Women’s Rugby League World Cup and played a pivotal role in the team’s gold medal victory at the 2023 Pacific Games. Additionally, she was part of the Cook Islands squad for the 2023 Pacific Championships.
In early 2024, Kiria-Ratu suffered a significant setback, rupturing her ACL during a BMD Premiership match, which sidelined her for the entire NRLW season. Despite this, she remained focused on her recovery and future in the sport.
Off the field, Chantay shares her passion for rugby league with her sister, Annemarie Kiria-Ratu, who has also joined the Sharks’ Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership team. Their shared journey adds a unique dynamic to their professional careers.
