Player Bio
Oryn Keeley is a dynamic second-row forward for the Melbourne Storm, widely regarded as one of the NRL’s most exciting young edge talents. Known for his athleticism, work rate and strong running game, Keeley has developed into a modern back-rower capable of impacting both sides of the ball. He joined Melbourne midway through the 2026 season after being granted an early release from the Dolphins, despite originally being contracted to arrive in 2027.
Born in Gosford, New South Wales, Keeley began his rugby league journey with the Northern Lakes Warriors and The Entrance Tigers before progressing through the Newcastle Knights pathway system. He advanced through Newcastle’s Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Jersey Flegg programs, establishing himself as one of the game's leading young forwards.
His reputation as an elite junior was cemented through representative honours with NSW Under-16s and NSW Under-19s, captaining the Under-19s side to victory in 2022 and earning Player of the Match honours at the Brad Fittler Medal Awards.
Keeley made his NRL debut for the Newcastle Knights in Round 23 of the 2022 season against the Canberra Raiders, before adding a further first-grade appearance in 2023. Seeking greater opportunities, he signed a three-year deal with the Dolphins in October 2023 and debuted for the club in Round 7 of the 2024 season. Across 2024 and 2025, he continued his development at NRL level, featuring regularly in the Dolphins’ forward rotation and scoring four tries in 16 appearances during the 2025 campaign.
Beyond the NRL, Keeley delivered several standout performances in the Queensland Cup. In 2024, he played a key role in the Norths Devils’ premiership-winning season, starting in the second row in their Grand Final victory. Just two weeks later, he produced a man-of-the-match performance in the NRL State Championship, scoring two second-half tries, including the match-winner, as the Devils defeated the Newtown Jets 20–18.
Recognising his immense potential, the Melbourne Storm signed Keeley to a two-year contract covering the 2027 and 2028 seasons in December 2025. His development continued to impress, leading to an early release from the Dolphins and an immediate move to Melbourne in June 2026. The Storm identified Keeley as a talented young forward with the skill, professionalism and upside to become an important member of the club’s pack for years to come.
Still in the early stages of his NRL career, Keeley has already built a reputation as a hardworking and highly promising edge forward, with Melbourne viewing him as a key part of the club’s future as he continues to develop under Craig Bellamy’s system.
