Player Bio

Corban Baxter is one of the most respected and accomplished figures in women’s rugby league, with a career spanning the highest levels of the game across the NRLW, State of Origin and international rugby league. A foundation player and long-time leader of the Sydney Roosters, Baxter has built a reputation as an elite competitor whose versatility, leadership and professionalism have helped shape the modern women’s game.

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, and of Māori heritage, Baxter moved to Australia as a young child and quickly developed into an outstanding athlete. Equally talented in touch football and netball, she eventually transitioned into rugby league, beginning her senior career with the Helensburgh Tigers before rapidly rising through representative pathways.

Baxter made her New South Wales debut in 2015 and her Australian Jillaroos debut in 2016, establishing herself as one of the game’s premier outside backs. Her representative career includes multiple appearances for the Jillaroos, New South Wales, the Māori All Stars and Australia’s Rugby League 9s team. She was also a member of Australia’s victorious 2017 Women’s Rugby League World Cup squad, further cementing her status among the sport’s elite players.

A cornerstone of the Sydney Roosters since the club’s entry into the NRLW, Baxter made her Roosters debut in 2019 and has since become synonymous with the Tricolours. Her leadership qualities saw her appointed captain, and in 2021 she became the first captain in Sydney Roosters NRLW history to lift a Premiership trophy, leading the club to its maiden title.

Renowned for her versatility, Baxter has excelled at fullback, five-eighth and centre, combining elite game awareness with strong ball-playing ability and toughness. Across her career she has consistently been one of the Roosters’ most influential players, providing guidance both on and off the field while helping establish the club as one of the NRLW’s benchmark programs.

Away from football, Baxter is widely admired for her resilience and commitment to developing future athletes. A proud mother, she successfully returned to the elite level after the birth of her children and continues to balance professional sport with family life. She is also the co-founder of CK Athletic Development, a program focused on mentoring and supporting aspiring athletes.

As a current Roosters leader, State of Origin representative and former Jillaroo, Baxter remains one of the most influential players in women’s rugby league. Her achievements, longevity and impact on the game have established her as a role model for the next generation and one of the defining figures of the NRLW era.
