Todd Carney is a former Australian professional rugby league player renowned for his natural skill, creativity and goal‑kicking ability during a career that spanned the NRL and Super League.
Born in Goulburn, New South Wales, Todd was identified as a prodigious talent at a young age and was recruited into the Canberra Raiders system as a junior. He made his NRL debut at just 17 years of age in 2004 and was named Raiders Rookie of the Year in his first season.
Todd played in the NRL with the Canberra Raiders, Sydney Roosters and Cronulla‑Sutherland Sharks, before later continuing his career overseas with Catalans Dragons, Salford Red Devils and Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League. Across his professional career, he was primarily a five‑eighth, also featuring at halfback and fullback, and amassed more than 220 senior matches at the top level.
The highlight of Todd’s career came in 2010, when he enjoyed a standout season with the Sydney Roosters, being awarded the Dally M Medal as the NRL’s Best Player, along with Five‑Eighth of the Year and the Provan‑Summons Medal (Players’ Choice).
At representative level, Todd earned selection for New South Wales, NSW Country and Australia, including one Test appearance for the Kangaroos in 2010 and State of Origin appearances for NSW in 2012.
Todd retired from top‑tier professional rugby league after the 2018 Super League season. Since stepping away from elite competition, he has remained connected to the game through mentoring, coaching pathways and personal development roles, while also sharing his experiences to support others within and beyond the sporting community.
