Player Bio

Paul “Mary” McGregor is a highly respected rugby league coach and former elite centre whose career spans club, State of Origin and international honours.

Most recently, Paul worked with the Parramatta Eels as a coaching consultant during the 2022 season, contributing to the club’s run to the NRL Grand Final. He has since taken on advisory and representative roles, including staff roles with the NSW Blues and community pathways work with the Dapto Canaries’ Harrigan Cup program.

Paul previously coached over 150 NRL games as head coach of the St George Illawarra Dragons (2014–2020), having first served the club in strength and conditioning before moving into senior coaching.

As a player, McGregor starred in the centres for the Illawarra Steelers and St George Illawarra Dragons, earning selection for Country Origin, New South Wales and the Australian Kangaroos. One of the highlights of Paul’s representative career came in the 1997 State of Origin series, where he was named Man of the Match in Game II, a performance remembered as one of the defining moments of that series.

In recognition of his impact on the game in the region, Paul was named in the Illawarra Rugby League Team of the Century (2011) in the centres, a prestigious honour celebrating the greatest players produced during the competition’s 100‑year history.
