Player Bio
Patrick Mago is a powerful and highly influential prop forward for the Wigan Warriors, renowned for his impact off the bench, physical dominance through the middle, and relentless work rate. A New Zealand‑born forward who was raised in Queensland, Mago began his professional career in the NRL, making his first‑grade debut with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2016 before later playing for the North Queensland Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos, where he forged his reputation as an aggressive and athletic middle forward at the highest level.
He joined Wigan ahead of the 2022 Super League season and made an immediate impression, quickly becoming a key figure in Matt Peet’s forward rotation. Since arriving in the UK, Mago has played a major role in one of the most successful periods in the club’s modern history, contributing to victories in the 2022 Challenge Cup, 2023 League Leaders’ Shield, 2023 Super League Grand Final, and the 2024 World Club Challenge. His high‑energy carries, improved ball‑handling, and uncompromising defence have made him a trusted presence within the squad and a fan favourite at The Brick Community Stadium.
Mago’s consistency and commitment were further recognised in May 2024, when Wigan secured his long‑term future by announcing a new two‑year contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2026 season, with an option for 2027. The deal reflected his importance both on and off the field, with coaches and club officials praising his professionalism, leadership and cultural impact within the group.
