Coby Black is one of rugby league's brightest young playmakers, bursting onto the NRL stage in spectacular fashion with the Canberra Raiders in 2026. The talented halfback announced himself with a record-breaking debut, scoring 26 points through two tries and nine goals in Canberra's win over North Queensland, the most points ever scored by a player in their first NRL appearance.
Born on the Gold Coast, Black progressed through the Broncos system before joining the Raiders on a three-year deal. A former Queensland Under 19s captain, he earned a reputation as a composed organiser with an elite kicking game, strong leadership qualities and the ability to control matches under pressure.
Before his NRL debut, Black impressed in both the Queensland Cup and NSW Cup, developing against senior opposition and establishing himself as one of the game's most highly regarded young halves. His standout performances in Canberra's pathways system were rewarded with an opportunity at the top level, which he seized in memorable fashion.
